IP stands for Internet Protocol. IP cameras are the newest development in surveillance, coming into popularity in the last few years. These cameras use your network to connect to your system and share data. This allows the system to grow and change with better flexibility – less reliance on cables and power outlets gives you more control over where cameras are placed. The IP cameras are connected through Ethernet cables cat5e or Cat6 to a Network Video Recorder, NVR. Modern NVR’s from leading supplier of CCTV equipment such as Hikvision, use POE which stands for power over Ethernet, thus the IP cameras are powered via the NVR through the Cat5 or cat6 cable.
